Galaxie® actuators boost performance in capsule filling machines

Compact, ready-to-install Galaxie® servo actuators from WITTENSTEIN optimize rotary table dynamics, flexibility and productivity in modern capsule filling machines.

Zero-backlash servo actuators for capsule filling machines

Harro Höfliger was looking for an integrated, ready-to-install drive solution that would meet the demanding requirements of its new Modu-C CS capsule filling machines. In addition to maximum rigidity, load capacity and dynamic positioning accuracy, the solution had to enable flexible kinematics and decouple the rotary table from the processing stations. With the compact, wear-free Galaxie® D135 actuator, WITTENSTEIN Galaxie provided a technologically leading solution that meets these requirements and simplifies machine design, installation and servicing.

Founded in 1975, Harro Höfliger has developed into a leading provider of customized process solutions and production machines for pharmaceutical and medical technology applications, employing around 2,500 people worldwide. Capsule filling machines of the Modu-C series are a key part of the company’s machine portfolio.

The latest development, the Modu-C CS, is designed for small to medium output segments such as R&D applications, small batch production and filling to order. Depending on the application, the machine achieves filling rates of up to 43,500 capsules per hour and can also be used for highly efficient commercial capsule filling on a smaller scale.

Flexible kinematics: precise, efficient and easy to integrate

In the Modu-C CS capsule filling machine, precise and flexible control of the rotary table is essential for achieving highest and consistent filling quality. The Galaxie® D135 actuator enables independent control of the rotary table, allowing customized motion profiles without affecting the processing stations. This kinematic decoupling is a key requirement for maintaining stable process quality and high productivity, even at high cycle rates and with varying fill materials.
Its compact design, zero backlash and high efficiency reduce heat generation and eliminate the need for additional cooling, while simplifying installation, servicing and format changes.

Precision drives peak performance

The Galaxie® D135 actuator enables highly precise and flexible rotary table motion in capsule filling machines. True zero backlash, high torsional rigidity and excellent synchronous running ensure accurate positioning and stable motion profiles, even at high cycle rates. By decoupling the rotary table drive from the processing stations, Harro Höfliger gained new degrees of freedom to meet a variety of requirements on this machine, which can be customized to meet specific customer needs. Its compact, integrated design with a large hollow shaft, integrated bearings, absolute encoder and electronic nameplate enables straightforward installation, rapid system integration and high efficiency with minimal heat generation, eliminating the need for additional cooling and reducing downtime during operation and format changeovers.

Galaxie® offers superior performance across all key technical parameters

Unmatched precision

The innovative Galaxie® design delivers true zero backlash and exceptional synchronous running for highly precise, repeatable motion control.

Ultimate rigidity

The Galaxie® gear principle ensures high torsional rigidity across the entire torque range, independent of load direction or operating point.

Highest positioning accuracy

Highest positioning accuracy and dynamic response enable stable, reliable motion profiles even at high speeds and cycle rates.

“Support in the form of sizing tools and personal advice, checks for potential optimization and downsizing measures, help with commissioning – all these things underpin our many years of successful collaboration.”

Florian Huhnen, design engineer at Harro Höfliger

A partnership built on trust and engineering excellence

Harro Höfliger and WITTENSTEIN have been working together for more than 25 years in various fields of mechatronic drive technology. Support through engineering tools, personalized consultation on gearbox and servo actuator selection, and evaluation of optimization and downsizing potential—all of this characterizes this long-standing partnership.

Support during commissioning, such as the integration of the Galaxie® D135 via its electronic nameplate, further underlines the depth of this cooperation.

Building on this successful collaboration, additional joint application projects are already on the shared roadmap.
