Our areas of competencies
The Galaxie® gearbox revolutionizes the turret in the new INDEX ABC CNC turning machine. While the machine concept, working space, footprint, cycle times and cutting quality match the previous version, the upper turret has been completely redefined thanks to Galaxie®. This innovation enables versatile new machining options and expands the range of parts. The leap in performance was achieved by replacing rigid Hirth coupling and hydraulic clamping with the compact Galaxie® GS 190 from the accuracy line – featuring an optimized bearing concept for maximum precision.
Electroimpact, a global leader in aerospace automation, relies on Galaxie® for its automatic fiber placement systems. These AFP systems produce large composite parts for Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier, Embraer and NASA. In 2016, Electroimpact achieved a breakthrough in performance, scale and precision by integrating the WITTENSTEIN Galaxie® system. The result: enhanced accuracy and reliability for highly complex automation processes in aircraft assembly and composite manufacturing.
For its Modu-C CS capsule filling machines, Harro Höfliger needed a compact, zero-backlash actuator for rotary table kinematics. The Galaxie® D135 actuator from WITTENSTEIN galaxie met these requirements perfectly. It offers outstanding precision and dynamics, while simplifying design, assembly and service. This integrated solution optimizes machine performance and ensures reliable operation in demanding pharmaceutical production environments.

GALAXIE® - functional principle using the example of a miniaturized Galaxie®
The innovative core of the new Galaxie® drive system is the virtually full surface contact during power transmission. This achieves a tooth contact surface that is six and a half times larger compared to conventional involute teeth with line contact. To achieve this maximum contact, we have implemented a fundamentally new concept: individual teeth are guided simultaneously along an internal ring gear. The tooth surface geometry is based on a logarithmic spiral which allows the teeth to engage with the internal ring gear across the full surface.
