Zero backlash in the drive – maximum precision in CNC machining

Galaxie® drive technology for high-precision, dynamic CNC machines from MAKA.

When drive play becomes a precision limit

In multi-axis CNC milling heads, drive backlash, rigidity, and dynamics directly determine the achievable contour accuracy. Even slight backlash in the A and C axes leads to added tolerances, reduced surface quality, and limited process stability—especially at high feed rates and frequent load changes.

MAKA therefore consistently pursues the goal of completely eliminating drive backlash in order to systematically increase precision, repeatability, and machining performance.

Galaxie® uncompromising freedom of play

With the Galaxie® drive system, MAKA relies on drive technology that differs fundamentally from conventional gear solutions. The completely backlash-free kinematics achieve up to six times the torsional rigidity, depending on the comparative gear. Tests in the test setup confirmed the high system rigidity, dynamic behavior, and unrestricted series production capability. The short-term retrofit of an already delivered machine also showed: performance increase without any adjustment effort in the machine concept.

Galaxie® kinematics: technical performance parameters

Maximum rigidity & precision

Backlash-free kinematics with high torsional rigidity, contour accuracy, and repeatability in multi-axis machining.

Durability & design freedom

Compact design with high fatigue strength. Greater freedom in milling head design with proven longer service life.

Greater dynamism & productivity

Increased machining performance thanks to high dynamics with stable and reliable processes

Performance enhancement for series machines

The use of Galaxie® in MAKA's CNC machines results in significantly improved accuracy and machining performance. Contours can now be machined with even greater precision and repeatability. In addition, the compact design of the drive system increases the kinematic flexibility of the milling heads. This means that even more complex shapes can now be machined—for example, when machining car interior trim. The improved rigidity and high dynamics of the compact hollow shaft unit ensure faster machining speeds. However, this does not come at the expense of service life. On the contrary: calculations that take into account factors such as travel cycles and loads show that Galaxie® is significantly more durable than other hollow shaft drives.

With the Galaxie® drive system, we can now also produce much more complex shapes.

Industry 4.0-compatible drive technology

Optimal integration: Galaxie® is designed for integration into digitized machine concepts.

Data-based applications: The drive unit supports data-based applications such as condition monitoring, virtual commissioning, and condition-based maintenance—key components for scalable production systems in high-performance machine engineering.

Looking to the future with Galaxie®

With Galaxie®, MAKA is creating the technological basis for even more rigid machine concepts, greater process reliability, and an expanded range of materials. The drive technology not only enables performance increases in existing series, but also new design approaches for future machine generations.

Galaxie® is thus becoming a strategic enabler for precision, productivity, and future-proofing in CNC machine construction.
